Options for Giving to Support God’s Ministry at Grace Lutheran Church

With your help, Grace Lutheran Church is making God’s love known in our congregation and in our community. As you prayerfully consider how you might help Grace Lutheran Church unlock new opportunities for ministry by making a financial gift, use this guide to giving options to help you consider ways in which you can share a gift and make an impact.
  •  Online Giving
    • Grace Lutheran Church receives giving digitally—through bank draft or debit/credit card payment—by way of Tithe.ly. You can make a one-time gift through the site or you can create a recurring gift.
    • A couple of things to keep in mind when you give via Tithe.ly:
      • At the bottom of the page you can choose to give via credit card or your bank account (ACH transaction).
      • Here are the various transaction rates:
        • ACH/eCheck: 0.5% + 25¢ per transaction
        • Visa, MC, Discover:  2.4% + 25¢ per transaction
        • AMEX: 3.5% + 25¢ per transaction
      • You can increase the impact of your donation by choosing to "cover the transaction fee."
  • Sunday Offering: Give Cash or Handwritten Check
    • Every Sunday we have an opportunity to join our gifts to God’s gift of Christ for the world through our offering. You can share your gift by placing cash or a check in the offering plate. If you would like your contribution to be included on your Giving Statement (for tax purposes), please make sure that you put the cash or check in an offering envelope with your name on it.
  • Online Bill Pay through your Bank
    • Most online banks offer a free service called “Online Bill Pay.” You can arrange for your bank to send a check to Grace Lutheran Church through the mail on a one-time or recurring basis. Setting up a recurring payment can be a helpful tool in the joy and discipline of consistent giving.
  • Kroger Community Rewards
    • Register online at krogercommunityrewards.com using Grace’s Organization Number (HJ651) to support Grace while you shop at Kroger with your Kroger Plus Card!
  • Thrivent Choice Dollars
    • Visit Thrivent's website to designate your choice dollars to "Grace Lutheran Church, Chesapeake, VA."
  • Giving through Retirement Account RMD (Required Minimum Distribution)
    • If you are 70 ½, you are eligible to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your IRA, which can provide a tax benefit to you and, of course, also benefit God’s ministry at Grace Lutheran Church.  Some simple rules:
      • You must be 70 ½.
      • It must be paid directly from a traditional IRA or Roth IRA.
      • It must be paid directly from IRA custodian to the charity.
      • It must be paid to a qualifying charity—Grace Lutheran Church qualifies.
    • If making a Qualified Charitable Distribution sounds like an interesting option to you, please talk to your tax advisor first, to see if a QCD is appropriate for your unique situation.
  • Give Stocks Directly
    • Donating appreciated stocks can be beneficial to both the stockholder and the gift recipient.  Talk to your financial professional to see if this option is appropriate for you and then contact our Council President for the information needed to process this gift to Grace Lutheran Church.
  • Make an Enduring Gift
    • If you wish to make a gift to support the ministry of Grace Lutheran Church through your Will or Estate, please contact Council President for more information on enduring gift possibilities like the Grace Endowment Fund and Growing in Grace (our building fund). You can also list Grace Lutheran as beneficiary on an insurance policy or other accounts.
